Helgas Halma

Helga's Halma is a possibly unfair board game with many possible variations that is dedicated to real life. My idea behind the design and gameplay is a political motif: board segments that can be assembled in different ways symbolize countries and national borders that need to be crossed. People travel or flee from one corner of the board to the other. No two pieces are the same; there are 120 individual pieces/people. Some of them are delicate and tip over easily, others are always stable. Some have to be carried halfway, some never arrive.
Named after my grandmother Helga, with whom I often enjoyed playing the classic game of Sternhalma as a child.

Prototype, 2020
